Mapping Interactions in a Computer Conferencing Environment
نویسندگان
چکیده
In this paper we discuss some preliminary findings from an evaluation on online interactions within a large population undergraduate computing course offered by the Open University (UK). The course uses asynchronous electronic conferencing to provide students at a distance with a collaborative learning environment. One type of online activity on the course is group working, which is of a practical problem solving nature, and is formally assessed. In our evaluation, we investigate the patterns and frequencies of interactions during online discussion for one of the course projects. In particular, we use content analysis to identify the nature of contributions that give rise to learning during the online discussion.

Effects of Moving Landmark’s Speed on Multi-Robot Simultaneous Localization and Mapping in Dynamic Environments
Even when simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) solutions have been broadly developed, the vast majority of them relate to a single robot performing measurements in static environments. Researches show that the performance of SLAM algorithms deteriorates under dynamic environments. In this paper, a multi-robot simultaneous localization and mapping (MR-SLAM) system is implemented within a...
متن کاملTHE IMPACT OF USING COMPUTER-AIDED ARGUMENT MAPPING (CAAM) ON THE IMPROVEMENT OF IRANIAN EFL LEARNERS’ WRITING SELF-REGULATION
The present study was conducted to investigate the impact of using computer-aided argument mapping (CAAM) on the improvement of Iranian learners’ writing self-regulation. To this end, 90 participants out of 127 senior university students in English translation were selected after administrating language proficiency test, as well as an essay writing test for the purpose of homogenizing the learn...
متن کاملHierarchical Conferencing Architectures for Inter - GroupMultimedia
Advances in computer and communication technologies have stimulated the integration of digital video and audio with computing, leading to the development of various computer-assisted collaborations. In this paper, we propose a multi-level conferencing paradigm (called super conferences) for supporting collaborative interactions between geographically separated groups of users, with each group b...
متن کاملCommunication in a web-based conferencing system: the quality of computer-mediated interactions
Time constraints and teaching in crowded classrooms restrict in-depth dialogical interaction in teaching and learning. Electronic conferencing systems, however, have the potential to foster online discussions beyond class time. Case-based instruction also constitutes a promising approach in fostering learners’ participation and reflection. The purpose of this study was to investigate (a) the ex...

The purpose of this study is to provide conceptual order and a tool for the use of computermediated communication (CMC) and computer conferencing in supporting an educational experience. Central to the study introduced here is a model of community inquiry that constitutes three elements essential to an educational transactionÐcognitive presence, social presence, and teaching presence. Indicator...
